Control Wars: a participatory worldbuilding game (Special edition: AIs Gone Wild)

12 October 2022 @ 09:30 - 11:00

Control Wars is a participatory worldbuilding game and auto-theoretical research device that brings people together to explore the values, theories and strategies used to shape change and bring about societal transitions. The game mechanics of Control Wars is built on low-frequency generative conflict, role-play and fiction, used to expose often contradictory emerging scenarios pulsating in our present—where different understandings of what technology, politics, data, or nature could and should be, are confronted.

Since the game’s inception in 2018, Control Wars has been played with diverse audiences worldwide to tackle urgent issues from climate change to data sovereignty. To date Control Wars has been featured at significant design, art and foresight venues, including the Porto Design Biennale 21 Alter-Realities, Service Design Global Conference 2021, World Future Studies Federation, 23rd World Congress, Mexico City, PRIMER19, Futures For All New York City 2019, Tentacular Festival, Madrid, 2018 and The Influencers Festival Barcelona 2018.

Prior knowledge? You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience to play Control Wars, only an open mind and a willingness to exercise your imagination.
