New and creative forms of journalism for hybrid democracy
13 October 2022 @ 11:30 - 12:45
Journalism is vital to democracy, yet within hybrid democracies traditional journalistic methods might not be sufficient. Hossein Derakhshan claims that we should move towards post-news journalism, employing narrative formats to engage people. This session explores what journalists can learn from creatives. Derakhshan will set the stage with a talk about post-news journalism, after which he will join the other three panelists in a discussion with the audience. A session with:
- Hossein Derakhshan – Iranian-Canadian writer and researcher, and a pioneer of blogging, podcasts and tech journalism in Iran.
- Noortje van Eekelen – founder of ACED, an interdisciplinary platform for design, art and journalism.
- Jake Blok – founder of Digital Rights House Amsterdam
- Marloes Geboers – researcher and lecturer Strong Stories at AUAS
