Launch Recast Network + Wrap-up

13 October 2022 @ 16:30 - 17:00

Recast is a new network of designers, researchers, policy makers and other professionals who together explore the social implications of technology, from a design perspective. Recast aims to explore future visions and imaginaries that can guide us in shaping our future in a social, sustainable way. Which visions and frameworks can lead the way? With which new prototypes, practices and processes can we realize those visions? And what new roles and professionals repertoires are emerging that can make these experiments into a success?

Recast stands for the visions and perspectives, prototypes and casts, repertoires and roles that can help us in (re)designing our society.

We specifically look at the role of design and new technology. The digital transition has far-reaching consequences for society, for better and for worse. How can we put public values back at the heart of the design of digital platforms, ‘smart’ cities, or the online worlds of the metaverse? And what role can design play in addressing societal challenges? We see a broader development in which the world of design is claiming an important role in addressing and tackling social challenges. How do these design approaches work, and where are the limits of their possibilities?

Recast starts with a bi-weekly newsletter, in which we explore developments, solutions or future scenarios that we believe can contribute to a recast for our society. We refer to publications, events and exemplary designs from the Recast network and beyond.

Sign up here and share your vision, ideas, publications, and designs with us. https://digitalsocietyschool.org/recast/
