A Short History of Trust (+ Other Speculations) Infrastructures of Trust

12 October 2022 @ 09:30 - 10:45

Without social trust it is impossible to build complex democratic societies. In this lecture we explore how the construction of trust is historically interlinked with information technology, the understanding of objective truth, the ability to scale human cooperation and the sense of community. This societal entanglement can be called the ‘architecture of trust’. In this session we explore how this ‘architecture of trust’ transitioned from a society based on the spoken word to a society based on the printed word and we speculate on how it ideally will evolve in our current transition towards the activated word. We will talk about the invention of professionalism, the scientific method and professionalism, the public domain, public stacks, WEB3, self-sovereign identities and data pods.
